Here's the sign for Java Restaurant as snapped yesterday outside a sign shop on 6th and Balboa. It's true. The Indonesian restaurant that's titillated Inner Richmond palates for at least 33 years, has moved on. According to an especially "SAD" tipster, "They had awesome cheap lunch specials. Now there is some cafe called "Cafe Bunn Mi". The word on the street is that Java's owner is retiring. As anyone who followed the recent departure of Indonesia Restaurant knows, this makes for an even bleaker year in San Francisco Indonesian food news. Not a peep yet from Kuta Bistro either.
