FREEBIES - This sign just went up outside the first of The Melt's anticipated 500 nationwide locations. Remember this is the the Flip Camera founder's techie grilled cheese pipe dream that Michael Mina's consulting on. As you can see, ordering is scary easy. (*Or if you can't read that, see the larger version of the sign after the hop.) Leading up to a late August opening, they'll be giving away free melt and soup combos to Facebook and Twitter fans next Friday from noon to 4 p.m. [EaterWire]

POP-UPS - Today Joanna Karlinsky, of buttery, flaky Meetinghouse biscuit fame, announces her new concept, Sweet Jo's Chili & Biscuits, serving a menu of warm biscuits, biscuit-based Benedicts and vegan and beef chili.

As Karlinsky seeks a permanent home for the concept, there shall be pop-ups at The Corner. This Sunday is a little preview from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (with free chili for anyone who buys a mimosa). After that, it'll be every Sunday from 10:30 to 2:30 p.m. and counter-service chili and biscuits at Oasis Cafe (901 Divisadero) on Thursdays and Fridays from 6 p.m. until its gone. [EaterWire]
