EMBARCADERO - Taste Catering is back at the Ferry Plaza on Thursdays. August 4th through September 15th they will again be serving summer tomato treats made with the "Taste tomato" bred by Baia Nicchia Farm & Nursery. We loved last years tomato soup and grilled cheese combo but this year the menu has expanded with refined dishes like a Summer tempura basket of Taste tomatoes (natch), padron peppers, squash blossoms stuffed with ricotta and herbs and served with a tomato aioli. For carnivores, a Marin Sun Farms meatball sandwich slathered with tomato sauce and salsa verde on a baguette. Wash it all down with a Taste tomato agua fresca. [EaterWire]

UNION SQUARE - Masa's is thinking positively when it comes to the weather and offering up a "cool menu for a hot summer nights." As if. The $98 menu has all chilly dishes like Santa Rosa plum soup, Hiramasa sashimi and filet mignon tataki. Gives us goosebumps just thinking about it. [EaterWire]

MORE TOMATOES - Lark Creek Restaurant Group is celebrating tomatoes in August too, look for specials like fried green tomatoes and Pt. Reyes blue cheese dip at One Market, an heirloom tomato casserole with Japanese eggplant and mozzarella at LarkCreek Steak and well, Cupola is a pizza place so no big surprise in finding tomatoes there but the Italian take on a BLT, the PLT (pancetta, lettuce and tomato) with basil aioli sounds awfully tempting.
