The Fish n' Chips Dive With 22 Yrs of Debt, Pizza Wars

New, 1 comment

WANTED - Eater's trusty sister site Curbed SF unearths the shocking story of Crockett Marine Services, operator of popular fish n' chips-serving dive Nantucket Restaurant , which has failed to pay rent since 1989. They currently owe $662,000, which comes out to about $2500 a month, or for more immediate perspective, a one-bedroom apartment in San Francisco. The matter's been turned over to the Attorney General, but as the commission's director says "We don't really know what happened with this one." [Curbed SF]

PIZZA WARS - Believe it or not, Richard Reddington isn't the only one planning a pizza restaurant in Yountville. Chron just broke news that Frank Altamura of Altamura Winery is plotting Ciccio, a pizzeria in the former Gordon's space across Washington St. He too will have a wood-fired pizza oven churning out thin-crust pies on the regular. Get ready for Pizza Wars, the Wine Country episode. [Chron]

SUSTAINABILITY - Way behind the rest of San Francisco, Fisherman's Wharf has finally gotten a restaurant serving 100% sustainable fish. The historic Fog Harbour Fish House has teamed up with the Aquarium of the Bay to abide by the Seafood Watch regulations. Welcome to the other side, little fish house and your wild caught salmon, crab and Pacific cod. [Hat tip: ISSF] [EaterWire]

CHEF SHUFFLES - Daniel Patterson has hired Saison pastry chef Matt Tinder to head up his programs at Coi, Plum and—later this fall—Haven in Jack London Square. Former pastry chef Deanie Hickox "had to step down due to an illness in the family." In other chef meanderings, Grand Cafe has hired Alicia Jenish as its new exec chef. Her new menu should go live in the next month. [ISSF]

STREET FOOD - Fresh off last weekend's SF Street Food Fest, founder Caleb Zigas is already thinking about how to make it better next year. He's currently dreaming about "a two-day festival with theme buses bringing folks from different parts of the city." He's also thinking they've outgrown the Mission and is looking at Mission Bay and possibly adding a night time component, adding "We want people to walk around with alcohol." [SFoodie]
