Gypsy Tea Room HUDSON REED & GREENOUGH takes shape in the Marina. As the name evolves, so does the concept. Whilst renovating the former Gravity space to make way for Hudson, owner Paul Owens (Tortilla Heights) discovered a story of fire, mystery, and intrigue. Spoiler Alert: OK looted wood from Reed & Greenough Distillery was used to rebuild 3251 Scott. Apparently after earthquakes and fires a-plenty, people looted wood to rebuild our fair city in the early 1900s. Owens thought this development (and the old wood facade) was so neato he decided to change the name and concept of his new bar to match the stolen wood.
Since Reed & Greenough was a vodka and gin distillery, they'll be the main focus of cocktails. They boast "the fastest beer in town," with pints filling in less than 2 seconds from any one of their 10 taps. We're interested in seeing how that doesn't foam up. Additionally they'll have 5 signature and 5 classic cocktails made with fresh ingredients and 10 wines on tap. Owens is staying mum on details for now, but will release the starting bartender lineup, happy hour specials, and beverage list 3 days before opening August 22nd. Expect it to be a "high-end" cocktail lounge, with leather, suede, fancy glassware and "really good ice options"-- cubed, crushed, you name it. We're hoping for that pellet ice that you had as a kid in your lemonade that you can chew on. Is that "high-end?" We'll just have to wait until August 22nd and see for ourselves.
