Last night Nina and Tim Zagat announced the 2012 San Francisco Bay Area Zagat edition results at a special industry cocktail party at Park Tavern in North Beach. Today, we discuss the results and findings from the 10,672 popular votes behind the ratings, mainly: people who read Zagat still love Gary Danko. He nabbed #1 in the Food, Service, and Most Popular rankings. See the full rundown of winners in all major categories here in the press release or after the hop. Naturally, Zagat added a new lengthier survey of food trucks for the first time ever this year. They've revealed the top five winners just for Eater and your Tuesday reading pleasure. In particular order: 1) Spencer on the Go! 2) Mama's Empanadas 3) Fivetenburger and RoliRoti (a tie!) 4) Chairman Bao. Agree? Disagree?
The press release also has a laundry list of trends you probably already knew about: the pizza craze, the izakaya thing, and "big-ticket chefs" opening more casual offshoots. There is, however, a fun comparison of what was hot in 1987 vs. 2012. Let's just say there was some serious "smoking between courses," and "bottled water" happening at the hot spot of the moment, Campton Place, in '87. And now, for what it's worth, the major winners this year:
