[Photos: Molly DeCoudreaux] Take a gander at Honor Bar, the latest in liquid refreshment for Emeryville's sprouting bar scene. Manager Alex Smith, formerly of Gitane, has crafted a cocktail menu of provocative "shaken" and "stirred" tipples such as The Von Teese (vodka, St. Germain, Mathilde Poire, absinthe, Peychaud's bitters, and lemon), Black Sabbath (Laphroaig, Averna, absinthe, and orange bitters), and Guy Fawkes (gin, PX sherry, Montenegro amaro, maraschino, acid phosphate, and absinthe). And though this spot used to be a restaurant called Sushi Village, Honor has already achieved a lived-in watering hole feel with touches like a black curtain dividing the entryway, shag carpeting on the wall under the bar, and a vintage Creature from the Black Lagoon pinball machine.
Talented Stag Dining Group chef Jordan Grosser has created a menu of snacks such as short-rib sliders, chicharrones, fried artichokes, bone marrow with grilled bread, and even a "bucket o' yard birds" with a maple sausage biscuit. Honor is just seven blocks from new bar (mecca?) Prizefighter, so maybe Emeryville is grappling for its moment in the spotlight this year. [EaterWire]
