Ebisu Shutters In FiDi, Makes Way For Tenmatsu

Steve Fujii has sold his Financial District Ebisu location to a new owner, Jennifer Liu. The sale springs from Fujii's desire to scale back, "to take life a little more easy," after 30 years in the business. He'll still operate the other Ebisu locations at SFO and in the Sunset, and his Hotei restaurant in the Sunset as well.

Liu is running another Japanese to-go-only operation called Tenmatsu in its place, with a focus on authentic home-style Japanese fare. After a light remodeling, the first day in business is today.

The manager on duty further clarifies what they'll specialize in: bento boxes, donburi, sushi, and authentic-style mochi. He adds that additional little tweaks to the decor are on the way, to make it feel more authentically Japanese. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

And don't expect Fujii to bow out of the biz altogether any time soon. This sale gives him more time to reinvigorate the menu and website at Ebisu and Hotei. Changes, he says, are "coming soon."
