Oakland's Flora Sprouts Fauna, A New Bar Next Door

Here is a first peek inside Fauna, the new companion bar to Flora, which owners Dona Savitsky and Thomas Schnetz have opened in the adjacent former storage space next door. The process began by cutting out a doorway in the wall for access. Now, several mounted taxidermy heads later, patrons of Flora can walk directly into the 22-seat Fauna next door as they wait for a table. Savitsky adds that they hope it will be a destination unto itself as well.

As you can see above, the design melds dark red walls, vertical stripes, and a wooden art deco back bar, for a funky spin on Flora's art deco vibe. There are also two TVs flanking the bar. On the Fauna menu are cocktails similar to what's available at Flora, along with beers on tap and small plates. It's been open for a week now, so you can drop in this weekend if you so desire.
