Today Esquire officially reveals its list of 2012 Best New Restaurants, as chosen by restaurant features writer John Mariani. San Francisco didn't grab and of the big headliner awards like Restaurant or Chef of the year, but State Bird Provisions and AQ popped up in the "Other Best New Restaurants" categories, which were sorted by trend ("small, comfortable, spectacular," and "big, splashy, restaurant is not dead," respectively). Another fun, unexpected sighting is Brasserie S&P chef Adam Mali who proved to Mariani that meals in a hotel "can compete with the best the city has to offer." Eater National has a rundown on the winners from the rest of the country.
