This just in, chef Danny Bowien is moving to New York to open a Lower East Side edition of his viciously popular Mission Chinese Food. He and partner Anthony Myint have taken over a former takeout space off Orchard St., which they'll remodel on a shoestring budget and reopen later this year. Jesse Koide, who's been helping Bowien in the kitchen at MCF for a long time, will keep things up to speed here at the Mission location. It's rare to see a San Francisco restaurateur hop to the sink-or-swim New York restaurant landscape with a concept that was born here, but somehow it makes sense that Bowien is doing it. After all, the guy came out of the gate with controversially defined "Americanized Oriental Cuisine" only to end up rubbing elbows with Martha Stewart and Anthony Bourdain a year and a half later. If you can expect anything from Bowien, it's the unexpected.
