Food & Wine's Best New Chef distinction is one of the most coveted titles in the world of American food. (Remember, Josh Skenes nabbed the title last year.) This year, they've started a Best New Pastry Chef contest in the same vein, and today they announce the winners across the country. The local San Francisco pastry chef extraordinaire is Devin McDavid who came on at Quince and Cotogna in September, straight from The French Laundry's pastry kitchen.
Other local names to note are Francis Ang—who won the People's Best New Pastry Chef in the West region (by popular vote)— and La Condesa pastry chef Laura Sawicki, who won the editorial award for Austin, TX; but also runs the pastry program at the Mexican restaurant's St. Helena outpost. Eater National has the full list of winners, and the full press release. Congrats are in order all around.
