Heart-breaking news today: Maggie Leung 's life was taken by stomach cancer earlier this week. Leung was diagnosed in April of 2011. For those who knew her, Leung wasn't just the very talented executive pastry chef at Masa's. She was a great friend to many in the San Francisco restaurant industry, and she was one of the few to successfully get Michael Bauer to "save all his calories for dessert" during her time running the pastry kitchen at Americano.
Fellow pastry chef Marisa Churchill said "I lost a good friend today. Maggie Leung was a talented pastry chef, and a bright and loving person, whose life was ended too soon because of cancer." This video encapsulates Leung's uncanny ability to rock a Burning Man costume, and her love of her friends, and life in general. Her husband Joshua Holmes will be sending a charity for donations in the next few days. Eater will pass on some extra notes about the memorial service as soon as they're made public.
