Alice Waters' Cafe Fanny Comes Back As Coffee/Wine Bar

New, 1 comment

When Alice Waters bid a tearful farewell to her 28-year-old Cafe Fanny in March, she said she wasn't done with the space, and today come the first inklings of its next incarnation: Bartavelle Coffee & Wine Bar. It turns out Alice Waters and building owner Kermit Lynch have commissioned Berkeley chef Suzanne Drexhage to run the business as sole proprietor with her son, "coffee guru" Sam Sobolewski . The Facebook has some additional nuggets about the pizza bianca sandwiches, house charcuterie and other small plates snacky things that will be offered along with Sightglass Coffee, and "an everchanging selection of tasty [Kermit Lynch] wines." Hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. Sobolewski, who comes back to Berkeley by way of Joe: The Art of Coffee in New York, tells Eater that Alice Waters is helping a lot with the menu, the concept and helping them "get off the ground." The hope for now is to open in late June or early July. Expect more on the decor and menu in the very near future.
