So charmed is Barstool Bauer by the "sophisticated" food and cocktail programs at Maven (598 Haight Street), that he gives it three stars. The "service emulates many qualities of more expensive restaurants," and the cocktail pairings for the Chinatown duck sliders and the grilled flank steak are particularly spot on: "the food produced by [chef David] Kurtz is both innovative and refined filled with bold flavors that have come to define much of the sophisticated bar food now being produced in the Bay Area."
