Now that building owner-about-town Sam Sirhed's Burger Urge is nearing eight months old, and Fork Cafe is working its way into the Castro community, Mr. Sirhed is ready to dial in the business at his 222 Powell property. Currently operating Union Square Gallery Market at the address, he's looking to bring in new life, and cash flow by recreating it as Sam's Cable Car Lounge. Sirhed tells Eater since Gold Dust Lounge closed across the way, he's hoping to offer something in a similar vein, "representing a cable car." He's got a thing for theatrical entrances, and the best guess is that he'll take a line from other cable car-esque joints around town. Not much more to reveal at this stage, except that existing licenses are being cancelled, and Sirhed says there will probably be branded t-shirts, mugs, and such so people can take a little piece of Sam's Cable Car Lounge home with them.
