Opening this Thursday is Hayes Valley Bakeworks, the new community-oriented, non-profit bakery from Toolworks. Today, you get a first look around inside at the multi-wooded, modern decor, designed by Jim Maxwell of Architects II. Mixing stations are placed prominently in an open kitchen, and an eye-catching art installation made of antique rolling pins underscores the bakery's unique mission, aimed at empowering the homeless and disabled with hands-on baking skills. Remember executive chef Alyssa Levy has come by way of DeLessio to put together quite the lineup of sweet and savory treats.
Bacon-laced cinnamon rolls, lots of vegan and gluten-free options, and market-fresh sandwiches on housemade breads and foccacia are all included in the opening list of options. Coffee comes from Four Barrel, and there is kombucha on tap for the kombucha-loving types. If you're itching to get on the inside track here, HVB has invited a limited number or RSVPers to participate in a kitchen test drive on Wednesday. See Facebook for the nitty gritty.
