1) Union Square: E & O Trading Co. (314 Sutter Street) reopened on Friday with the slightly new name of E & O Asian Kitchen and a renewed focus on the bar area. In line with Chef Arnold Eric Wong's vision, now there are more bar-appropriate bites, a raw bar, and dishes like Asian "gnocchi;" while the front of the restaurant has been opened up to invite walk-ins. Barman Carlos Yturria's new menu of Asian-inflected cocktails should help to that end. Website
2) Jackson Square: Attorneys Farshad and Owji Sibel have opened their "contemporary Turkish" spot Machka (584 Washington Street), offering a fairly straightforward sounding menu of Mediterranean fare (freshly made falafel, kebabs, chorizo stuffed dates) and a 32-seat dining room with a communal table and an exhibition kitchen. Website.
3) Chez Maman: Chez Papa Bistrot and Papito owner Jocelyn Bulow opens his second Chez Maman today, Chez Maman West, furthering the Frenchy feel of the neighborhood with a menu of steak frites, crêpes, salads, paninis and such. It's a small spot inhabiting the former Terra Bakery with 25 seats, a new light peach paint job and lots of natural light. Visit for lunch and dinner all week, and brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
