Back in May the Papalote local taqueria chain started a bit of a scuffle with Nate Valentine and friends about the intended new name for their Cole Valley Mexican restaurant. They thought "Papazote" was a bit too close too "Papalote," and were probably afraid their loyal customers would get confused and accidentally take the N to the intersection of Carl and Cole.
Today Valentine tells Eater he and partners Stryker Scales, Sam Josi, and Jordan Dunn have finalized the real name for their impending Mexican restaurant: Bocazote, meaning "big mouth and generous appetite." The Cole Valley business will resemble the team's Marina restaurant Mamacita, with some adaptations like corn and flour tortillas that are made-to-order. Since Bauer is obsessed with Mamacita, you better believe he'll be making the trip out to Cole Valley a few weeks after Bocazote opens this fall.
