THE SHUTTER — An Eater tipster writes in to say that there's paper in the windows at Marina & Kebab (2257 Chestnut) after around four years in business. The phone number has been disconnected, too. [EaterWire]
ALICE WATERS WIRE - While fundraising in California, President Obama talked about the junk food-only diet of Marvin Nicholson, one of his top personal aides. Obama recounted a fundraising dinner that Alice Waters had prepared and how Nicholson, who "doesn’t believe in eating vegetables," was "traumatized." [ObFo]
FIRST WORD — A new Cal-French restaurant called Chez Nico (3228 Sacramento) hopes to open in Laurel Heights early next year. Nicolas Delaroque (who has worked at Manresa and Atelier Crenn, among other spots) and Andrea Delaroque will run the 40-46 seat restaurant, which has a rooftop garden. Perhaps he's the titular Nico in the name. [Tablehopper]
POP-UPS — Seoul Patch concludes its lunch service at Rocketfish (1469 18th St.) on July 31 after running weekdays for the past nine months. Eric Ehler is in search of a permanent restaurant space, which he'd like to be open by next spring and will probably pop up in Dogpatch, Mission Bay, and the Mission for the rest of this year.
