Crème Brûlée Cart Readies SoMa Walk-Up Window

A lot has happened since the Crème Brûlée Cart debuted as an illegal pop-up in Dolores Park in March 2009. Head flame Curtis Kimball went legit the next year with a city-approved cart and unleashed a truck last summer. Now, Kimball is going for triple threat status with the opening of a walk-up window.

Previously occupied by cookie maven Goody Goodie Cream & Sugar, this latest venture is located at SoMa coffee spot Vega (1246 Folsom). The menu will rotate through the existing repertoire of flavors and include specials that Kimball calls "too complicated to do elsewhere." Operating hours will be noon to 8 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and noon to 1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Kimball is pondering ideas such as Sunday brunch with appropriate flavors (Captain Crunch, mimosa) and a "munchies happy hour" (Oreos and other lowbrow varieties); the latter may or may not take place at 4:20 p.m. And while a firm opening date has not yet been set, he expects to open the window in three weeks.

Hours for the truck (Market and Castro) and cart (Market and Sutter) are both set to be extended in the next few weeks as well. The cart, typically open during the day, will be open until 8 p.m., while the truck — a night staple — will open at 1 p.m. most afternoons.
