Now Ravi Kapur Is Cooking At State Bird Provisions

Back in February, one-time Nancy Oakes protege Ravi Kapur announced that his next move would be a pop-up inspired by his Hawaiian roots called Liholiho Yacht Club. Now, after several months cooking on Mondays at Citizen's Band, Kapur has started to get the knack of this pop-up thing, and he's moving on to launch his next series of dinners at six-month-old Fillmore Street sparkler State Bird Provisions. Kapur is long-time friends with State Bird owner Stuart Brioza, and he's excited to take the restaurant's kitchen for a test drive. (*Side debate: He also describes State Bird as "the most significant restaurant to open this year and will have a profound impact on our dining topography." Discuss.)

As you may recall, the format of Kapur's dinners is family style. Diners pay a fixed price and get 12 dishes served in three rounds. The price format is now $50 for all the food, not including tax, tip or beverages. The next two dinners will take place this Sunday, July 15th, and the following Sunday, July 22nd. As he did at Citizen's Band, Kapur will see how it goes with these two dinners before announcing the dates for the next series, which will probably take place in August. You can make reservations through State Bird Provision's website, and see the working menu for this Sunday below. Also, ponder a coincidence: State Bird and Liholiho share a star dish of fried quail.
