NORTH BEACH — The rent has gone up by $500 at Tosca Cafe (242 Columbus) to $7500 a month. Problem is, that's now $1000 per month more than what the establishment is typically capable of bringing in, which makes for an uncertain future. [ISSF]

COMING ATTRACTIONS —
The second annual Sunday, Bloody Sunday Bloody Mary battle takes place from noon to 3 p.m. on August 26 at Scala's Bistro (432 Powell). Eight local bartenders are involved in this face-off, and admission includes a taste of each and bites by chef Jen Biesty. Tickets are $25 and available here. The restaurant also has a new "Bloody Marys of the World" menu available for weekend brunch. [EaterWire]

BEERWIRE — Almanac Beer Co, which recently created a brew for The Fairmont Hotel, celebrates one-year in business and the release of the new California Table Beer series from 6-9 p.m. on August 29 at Bloodhound (1145 Folsom). The event is free, as are some nibbles from 1058 Hoagie and Deli Board. [EaterWire]

FIDI — Seafood restaurant Georges (415 Sansome) begins Saturday night dinner service starting August 25. The restaurant came under new ownership in 2011, when it was taken over by Evan Gelleri, Jay Marx, and chef Michael Bilger. [EaterWire]
