THE MISSION — Oakland's Caña Cuban Restaurant (500 Florida) is opening its first SF location in the old Circolo spot, which closed in March. Construction has begun, but there's no word on an opening date yet. [Tablehopper]
POP-UPS — The next Truck Stop Cafe, the monthly expression of extreme comfort food from Humphry Slocombe owner Jake Godby, takes place tomorrow night (Aug. 29) from 6 p.m. "until somebody cries" (usually around 9-10 p.m.) at Truck (1900 Folsom). This month's edition debuts a lobster roll on a Black Jet Bakery bun with fried green tomatoes alongside recurring specials like fried chicken with cornmeal pancakes and maple butter or Swiss steak shepherd's pie with garlic bread. Savory bites to try while you wait for The Parlour. [EaterWire]
COMING ATTRACTIONS — The chefs of Bacchus Management Group's restaurants (Spruce, the Village Pub, Café des Amis, Mayfield Bakery & Cafe, and Pizza Antica) join forces for the annual SMIP Ranch Harvest Dinner on October 6. Private buses depart at 2:45 from the Village Pub (2967 Woodside Rd.) and travel to SMIP Ranch in Woodside, returning at 10 p.m. The day includes a ranch tour, where people are encouraged to eat selected bits of produce straight from the ground, and a family-style dinner. Reserve tickets ($195) and get more info by emailing rsvp@bacchusmanagement.com [EaterWire]
LISTICLES — Daniel Holzman, chef/owner of New York's the Meatball Shop, offers his recommendations for a food-obsessed tour of the greater Bay Area. The usual traveler's suspects like Chez Panisse, Slanted Door, and Delfina are name-checked alongside more off-the-beaten-path picks for wineries in Sonoma. [Fathom]
