Klaus Rainer, Leopold's Host With A Perpetual Smile

Welcome to Front & Center, a series highlighting front of the house professionals in Bay Area restaurants. Right now: Amy Sherman of Cooking with Amy on Leopold's host and co-owner Klaus Rainer, brother to Albert Rainer.

Klaus%20Rainer.jpgKlaus Rainer at Leopold's is the very model of a good host. In a boisterous and cramped space, he manages to exude genuine warmth with a big smile, hearty welcome and very accommodating manner. You really can't miss him with his gingham or plaid shirts and mountain man physique. Rainer sets the tone from the moment you arrive, making you feel welcome whether you are a 20-something or part of the retirement set. The noise, the chill of the street, the wait—who cares when Klaus is in the house.
