The controversial group slated to enter shuttered historic gay bar Eagle Tavern (398 12th Street) appears to have backed out of the deal. Just yesterday Chron reported that the Board of Supervisors was asking the new owners to reach out to the gay community before they would transfer the liquor license. Hours later, the SAVE The Eagle Tavern Facebook page posted a surprising announcement: "Gays sign Eagle Lease!!!! Party at Lone Star 6 pm tonight!" And there's a new website for S.F. Eagle too. New owners "Mike and Alex" explain it's going to take months to get the physical space soaring again, and SFist notes an added difficulty: "turning it into a place LBGT ilk will actually go outside of Folsom Street Fair and Pride."
