Caesar's Last Night, Pipérade's New Event Space

THE SHUTTER — Tonight marks the final night of service for Italian stalwart Caesar's (2299 Powell), which has been open for 50 years Owners have not publicly commented on the reason for the closure. [ISSF]

EMBARCADERO — Pipérade (1015 Battery) is celebrating 10 years in business, and the restaurant that's been declared the cornerstone of a "new Basque quarter" has added a new private event arm next door. Lauburu (the Basque cross that symbolizes spirit and life) seats 30 or hosts up to 45 in a 1,000 square-foot space where a personalized menu can be served. [EaterWire]

COMING ATTRACTIONS — Slow Food's Fresh Food Picnic and benefit takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on September 15 at Santa Rosa's Rancho Mark West Farm (7125 St. Helena). Hosted by Slow Food founder Carlo Petrini and featuring Alice Waters, the family-style meal is cooked by chefs including Dennis Lee (Namu Gaji), Ryan Farr (4505 Meats), Christopher Kostow (The Restaurant at Meadowood), and Thomas McNaughton (Flour + Water).
