The team behind Sam's Chowderhouse, Sam's Chowdermobile, and the critically adored Osteria Coppa have jumped on the up-for-grabs former Lavanda space at 185 University Avenue in Palo Alto. Here, owners Paul and Julie Shenkman and chef-partner Lewis Rossman are moving forward on their third brick-and-mortar venture, Campo Pizzeria. Above, take a look at the blank slate and the logo they're dealing with.
The plan is to build out a casually designed 120-seat dining room with reclaimed wood communal tables, red and sage green chairs, vintage furniture and fixtures, a large curved Italian marble bar, chalkboards that call out wines and daily specials, string lights with exposed bulbs that light the dining room, and two pizza ovens.
Beyond pizza, the menu will include handcrafted Italian-style pasta, a mozzarella bar, seasonal small plates, and "organic farm-fresh salads." The team is now in the throes of finalizing an executive chef, as they move towards an early November opening.
