Since launching her PieTisserie pie pop-up in 2010, Jaynelle St. Jean has built a loyal fan base and a five star reputation on Yelp. Fans have gotten used to ordering ahead, or lining up for her consistent Friday appearances at Old Oakland's Swan Market. Getting hold of St. Jean's interestingly flavored pies—including Okinawan sweet potato, chocolate cream in pretzel crust, and the key lime pie Jonathan Kauffman called "perfectly correct"—is about to get a whole lot easier. PieTisserie plans to open a full-time pie shop at 444 Oak Street in the Jack London District. In the joint's "signature" style, all of the pies will be served out of a window. Expect new flavors like spiced plum with huckleberry, lemongrass custard, and coconut cream with macadamia nut toffee to launch in tandem with the opening, which is currently slated for October.
