Schulzie's Bread Pudding Opens Tomorrow in Hayes Valley

New, 3 comments

News first broke of Schulzie's Bread Pudding in Hayes Valley all the way back in December 2011, and now Hayeswire reports that the joint is finally going to open tomorrow. As previously mentioned, the second location of Sarah Schulz and Julie Hurlbert's bread-pudding purveyor (the original is in Venice, CA) will feature 20 daily hot and cold flavors from a recipe backlog of over 108, plus Blue Bottle coffee.

It's been a long road for Schulzie's, whose move into the historic 364 Hayes Building was such a pain that it almost didn't open at all. Inspections and last-minute construction requests from the city pushed the planned December opening to January. In Schulz's words, "It is CRAZY hard to build out a new shop in a historic building in San Francisco. No really, CRAZY hard."

Schulz has also launched a $10K Kickstarter to make up for the cost of the delays, though it's still only half-funded. (Hyperbolic descriptions of the company as "ground zero of the pudding revolution" and the space as "the next great pudding parlor" in the video probably haven't helped matters.) Pledge $250 or more, and they'll let you taste all 108 flavors at your leisure, from Boom Boom Banana to Candied Yam, Yes I Am!

With Schulzie's, Miette, Smitten Ice Cream, La Boulange de Hayes, Chantal Guillon macarons, and Hayes Valley Bakeworks all within a block of each other, we could speculate that Hayes Valley has hit peak sugar, but we'll probably end up being embarrassed by the opening of another cupcakery.
