Winery magnate Bill Foley, whose takeover of the Hotel Les Mars spelled doom for now-defunct Michelin-starred Cyrus, plans to open an upscale casual eatery named Chalk Board Bistro in its place.
No timeline is set yet. What we know so far: the identity of the chef, Shane McAnelly (who left Va de Vi last month), and the style -- small shared plates and wine flights, with a "fun atmosphere." Foley wants the spot to be more "approachable" than Cyrus, which went out with a bang in October as guests were served shavings from a giant $15,000 white truffle.
Meanwhile, Cyrus' ex-chef Douglas Keane mentioned in a tweet that his new years resolution is to "get a job." He was most recently spotted earlier this month in Yosemite cooking at the Ahwahnee as part of their Chefs' Holidays series of events. No word on when, where, or whether he'll return to the world of fine dining. [BiteClub, GrubStreet, EaterWire]
