OAKLANDThe EBX checked out a pop-up preview dinner by Romney Steele, who's planning to open The Cook and Her Farmer in the Swan Marketplace later in 2013. Critic Luke Tsai enjoyed the "clean, earthy" crab gumbo, as well as the oysters, available both raw and roasted. Steele will host two more pop-ups on February 8th and 22nd, for those interested in checking out the goods. [EBX]

CASTRO—Recently-opened gay sports bar Hi-Tops earned an appearance in the most recent issue of Sports Illustrated, complete with a photo of two gay Niners fans sharing a kiss. While we wish the existence of gay sports enthusiasts wasn't such a surprise to Middle America, we'll still give props to SI for featuring the smooch in their Super Bowl issue, one of the most popular on their annual calendar.
