Beaux, Clubby in the Castro

Beaux
2344 Market Street
Phone: None
Web: beauxsf.com
Status: Open

Though gay bars have been sadly on the decline outside of the Castro in recent years, the city's most prominently LGBT-friendly neighborhood is continuing to deliver new nightlife options. The latest arrival is Beaux, a bar and mini-club on Market Street. The project comes from Tim Eicher, Rob Giljum, and Rob Cotterman, the owners of The Edge, Q Bar and Midnight Sun. The space, which was previously incarnated as Detour, Jet, and most recently, Trigger, is designed as an all-purpose hangout, with a lounge near the front and a dance floor with its own dedicated bar in back, leading up to a mirrored mezzanine.

Drinks come at party-ready prices, with a happy hour until 7 pm that boasts $3 well drinks and $7 specialty cocktails. Prices rise to $5 and $9 during prime hours. Scotty Kennedy of Tacolicious designed the cocktails, which include the "Beaux-Tox" (cucumber vodka, coconut water and kiwi) and the "Novio" (tequila, Pavan and fresh lime juice). A sophisticated sound system and lighting add pep to the space, which hopes to become a go-to for casual nightlife in the Castro. Hours are Monday-Friday, 2pm-2am, and Saturday-Sunday, 12pm-2am.
