Indian food devotees, here are four words you've been waiting to hear: Guddu Haider is back. The proprietor of the Tenderloin's Lahore Karahi sold that business last May, and though the new owners remodeled and serve roughly the same menu, neither the food nor the warm atmosphere Haider created have ever been quite the same. So it's no surprise that Yelp and Chowhound were full of excited fans rejoicing when Haider announced he'd be opening a new spot in the Inner Sunset.
Guddu de Karahi's menu is already online, and it features all the favorites from the Lahore days: tandoori fish, naan, shahi paneer, pakoras, seasoned rice, chai, and more. There's also chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, and lamb korma for the less adventurous, and kulfi and gulab jamun for dessert. A beer and wine license is in the works, but for now, it's lassis and sodas only. The space is small and simple, with a handful of tightly-packed tables, and carryout is always an option. Hours are Tuesday-Sunday, 11 am-3 pm and 5-10 pm. Diners can also follow Haider on Twitter for updates and specials.
