Tomorrow marks the official release of the 2014 Michelin Guide to restaurants in the Bay Area and Napa Valley, and Eater has a first look at the recipients of the guide's cherished stars. This year, Quince made the notable jump from one star to two, giving San Francisco the most two star restaurants in the U.S. and beating out New York and Chicago for the honors. Newly arrived to the Michelin scene is State Bird Provisions, which picked up its first star this year. And while three-star mainstays The French Laundry and The Restaurant at Meadowood remained on top, a handful of restaurants were dropped from the region's list of one-star spots.
In the losses column, La Costanera was demoted from one-star restaurants to feature on the more casual Bib Gourmand list, released last week. Masa's, which shuttered early this year, also disappeared from the one-star list, and Redd, Alexander's Steakhouse and Melissa Perello's Castro favorite Frances lost their stars.
