Marla Bakery Kitchen Communal
613 York St., Mission
Web: marlabakery.com
Status: Opening today
Though they still have a full Outer Richmond bakery planned to arrive next spring, the Marla Bakery duo of Amy Brown (Nopa) and Joe Wolf (Wise Sons) have found an extra outlet from which to sell their wares: a pop-up window at their commercial kitchen at York and 18th Streets, which opens today as Marla Bakery Kitchen Communal. The duo plan to serve a variety of breakfast and lunch items for hungry local workers and residents, including sweet and savory scones, pain au chocolat, and a bagel with farmer's cheese, tomato, and gravlax. For lunch, there's a $15 combo that includes a savory pie, a roasted butternut squash salad, and a honey-quince pot de creme for dessert. (See the full menu here.)
Three other businesses are joining forces to sell their wares out of Marla's window as well: Wrecking Ball Coffee, which will offer brewed coffee and a full lineup of espresso drinks made with their beans; A Spoonful of Sugar, offering their brioche donuts and cupcakes; and for the vegan crowd, Wholesome Bakery, which offers vegan and gluten-free treats like cookie sandwiches (with whipped or ice cream) and donuts. Hours will be Monday-Friday, 9 am-4 pm.
