Status: Opening today
Chico-based craft beer pioneers Sierra Nevada are opening their first beer bar outside of their hometown, The Torpedo Room, today in Berkeley. Named for the device the brewery uses to add hops to beer (which also gives its name to their Extra IPA), the Torpedo Room offers 16 drafts focusing on the brewery's unique and special releases, including current gems like a barrel-aged version of Torpedo with Citra hops; Knightro, a take on an Irish dry stout served from a nitrogenated tap; and DevESTATEion, a black IPA made with hops from the brewery's own property. The full draft list (which also includes classics like the signature Pale Ale, Kellerweis, and Narwhal stout) is on their website, and updated regularly.
The bar, which seats 45, doesn't have a real menu, but does offer a handful of snacks like a cheese plate and pretzels. Drinkers can enjoy beer in taster flights, and growlers of fresh brew, six-packs, and specialty Sierra Nevada bottles are also available to go. The rustic-industrial space, with a long wood and concrete bar, comes courtesy of Trachtenburg Architects, with wood and metal accents from Ferrous Studios and Westgate Hardwoods. Hours are Tuesday-Thursday, 11 am-7 pm, and Friday-Saturday, 11 am-8 pm. They're closed Sundays and Mondays, and will also be closed for Thanksgiving.
