There's a new addition on the way to Tiburon's charming waterfront row. Housed in the former location of The Boathouse, Luna Blu is the project of husband-and-wife team Renzo and Crystal Azzarello. Renzo, who previously owned and operated Café Renzo in Palo Alto, will serve as chef, bringing his Sicilian heritage into play with a menu of Italian seafood, pastas and antipasti.
Dinner, lunch and weekend brunch are all on the way, but Luna Blu will also capitalize on Crystal's English background with an afternoon tea served between lunch and dinner service. Crystal says that it will be a combination of traditional English tea (think tea sandwiches, quiches and cakes) and other European flavors, including an Italian-style tea.
Renzo's menu will focus on local, sustainable produce and will change daily according to what's on offer at local farmers markets. The focus will be on seafood, although the menu will span everything from salads and soups to pastas and desserts. And while Luna Blu will serve beer and wine, they also got lucky: they'll have a cocktail menu thanks to a full liquor license won from Marin County's competitive lottery.
The restaurant has about 20 seats inside, and 30 more on the expansive deck that looks out over the bay. The Azzarellos plan to open for dinner only on Friday, and will gradually add lunch, tea and brunch to their offering. Hours will be Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 11am to 9:30pm, Friday 11am to 10:30pm, Saturday 9:30am to 10:30pm, and Sunday 9:30am to 9:30pm.
