Bauer is pretty turned off by Palmer's Tavern, which he deems "a little kitschy," though it seems to be gaining in popularity thanks to "well-priced" cocktails and entrees like a "bargain" New York strip steak. "Unfortunately, for every good dish there seems to be a clunker," he says, noting a "dry" sole meuniere, "mushy mac 'n' cheese," "overcooked and underflavored" chicken, and "sloppily served" mussels. Add in "fitful" service with "long, unexplained waits" between courses, and it's not a pleasant picture, though it's still "a better fit than either of the places that preceded it." 1.5 stars. [Chron]
