25 Lusk, the glamorous SOMA restaurant from Chad Bourdon and chef Matthew Dolan, is the latest local spot to join the ever-growing SF expansion pool. According to Inside Scoop, the duo are planning to open a restaurant in the long-vacant 5,000-square-foot space between M.Y. China and Straits, under the dome. Details are scarce, but the duo say they plan to make it more casual than Lusk, in order to attract the mall crowd and lunchtime diners, and that it will have a significant technology component. (iPad ordering? LED walls? It's anyone's guess.)
Cass Calder Smith, who earned a Best New Restaurant Design prize from Architectural Digest and Best Designed Restaurant of the Year honors from Esquire when Lusk opened in 2011, is likely to return to design the still-unnamed new project. (He's also behind fellow Westfield dome tenant Cupola Pizzeria.) More details are still to come, but since the project won't arrive until winter 2014 at the absolute earliest, expect a wait.
