Status: Softly open
The former Frankie's Bohemian Cafe space on Divisadero has returned in its new incarnation, Presidio Pizza Company, an East Coast-style pizzeria. Behind the project are Kevin Kynoch and John Miles of next-door bar The Fishbowl, along with chef-partner Frank Bumbalo, who's serving up New York-style pies alongside Chris Norton, formerly a line cook at A16.
The menu is comfortable and classic, with starters like herbed garlic knots, crispy fried calamari and chicken wings. Pizza is the main offering here, with square pies like The Grandma (rustic thin square pie, red sauce, calabro mozzarella and pesto) and The Sicilian (focaccia-style square pie, red sauce, cheese blend, basil and oregano) along with classic round pies like the Frankie's (sausage, rapini, garlic, onions, cherry peppers, Grande mozzarella) and the Widowmaker (salami, house sausage, pepperoni, meatball, Grande mozzarella). Sandwiches like the Parmagiana and the East Coast Italian, plus a hefty calzone, round things out, and there's New York cheesecake, Nutella pizza and cannoli for dessert. (See the full menu here.)
The interior of the space is completely renovated post-Frankies, with window-adjacent high tops and a banquette replacing the bar at the right side of the space and a countertop on the left. There'll be Peroni, Anchor Steam and Coors Light on tap, with bottles of Speakeasy Big Daddy IPA, Deschutes Mirror Pond and Lagunitas Lil Sumpin'. House wine will be available by the glass, half carafe and full carafe, with specialty wines by the bottle.
The new spot will open every day at 11am, staying open 'til 11pm Monday-Wednesday and Sunday, midnight Thursday, and 2:30am Friday and Saturday.
