After losing executive chef Shane McAnelly back in January, Va de Vi in Walnut Creek has announced his replacement, Andy Phillips. Phillips is a California Culinary Academy grad who opened Gravity Bistro & Wine Bar in Palo Alto and was an executive sous chef at Esin in Danville. Phillips will keep the restaurant's global small-plates concept, and fine-tune the menu to focus on seasonal and local ingredients. Va de Vi is a regular player on the Chron's top 100 list, having appeared there every year since 2005; it remains to be seen if it'll stay there under Phillips' tenure. [EaterWire]
