After editions in Austin and New York City, SF is finally getting its own edition of Killed by Dessert, the popular national convocation of pastry chefs that benefits hunger charity Share Our Strength. The event features two components, both of which will be held at the new San Francisco Cooking School: a bake sale on the afternoon of Saturday, May 11 and a dinner the next evening, Sunday, May 12. For the bake sale portion of the proceedings, the six founding pastry chefs of Killed by Dessert—Bill Corbett (Absinthe Group), Christina Tosi (Momofuku Milk Bar), Brooks Headley (Del Posto), Lincoln Carson (Mina Group), Francisco Migoya (Culinary Institute of America), and Michael Laiskonis (Institute of Culinary Education)—will be joined by some of SF's other leading pastry lights, including Shawn Gawle (Saison), Melissa Chou (Aziza), Matt Tinder (Coi), Belinda Leong (b. patisserie), Stephanie Prida (Manresa), and Jessica Sullivan (Delfina). Everyone will sell their signature baked goods a la carte.
Then, the next day will bring a special dinner, with eight passed savory canapes from each of the founding chefs and guest stars William Werner (Craftsman & Wolves) and Michael Recchiuti (Chocolate Lab), followed by a sit-down tasting menu with two plated desserts from each of the founding chefs and mignardises by the guest chefs. Tickets to the dinner are $150 and it's expected to sell out, so grab 'em now if you want some of that sweet, sweet murder.
