After plenty of commentary, pearl-clutching, worries about gentrification, and breathless anticipation, Bi-Rite's second location on Divisadero finally opened its doors today. It's slightly larger than the Mission mothership, with a more streamlined layout and an expanded selection of grab-and-go meals and Bi-Rite's in-house Public line of sauces and pickles. The cheese counter is also expanded, with cut-to-order cheeses in addition to pre-cut options. And, most importantly, Bi-Rite Creamery is located inside the store, as opposed to across the street; we imagine today's hot spell has probably already put the staff through its paces.
Followers of the project may also recall Bi-Rite's contest for a Divis-only sandwich and sundae. The winners were Joseph Slattery's Giuseppe, with salami, mortadella, provolone, red onion, and lemon aioli, and Zoe Byl's Salty Ginger, with ginger ice cream, ginger snaps, sea salt, and chocolate fudge. SFist sampled the Giuseppe this afternoon and declared it "a quality sandwich that won't exactly blow your mind...we'd rate it about a B+."
Bi-Rite Divis is open daily from 9 am-9 pm, with $2 one-hour parking available at the DMV lot on Fell Street (get more info on that here).
