POTRERO HILL—The New Taste Marketplace is back this Saturday with a squadron of 35 vendors, split between veterans and newbies. Among the intriguing newcomers are Rascal and Rae, a collaboration between two chefs from Quince and Oliveto, and Salty Sweet, the cookie baker that sent SFist into paroxysms of joy; old pals include Frozen Kuhsterd and Jablow's Meats. Also on hand for the first time: a wine and beer garden courtesy of Almanac Brewing and Bluxome Street Winery. More info right here. [EaterWire]
THE MISSION—The spring edition of the Bold Italic's ever-popular formal dance is coming up next week, and they're offering a special dinner with chef Risa Lichtman to get diners in the mood. (You can read more about Lichtman and her unique cooking philosophy here.) The $65 four-course menu includes dishes like artichoke bread salad and braised quail, plus wine pairings from Thorny Rose; tickets are here. [EaterWire]
SOMA—CSE Insurance is hosting a "Blazing Hot Chefs" pizza-making competition to benefit local firefighters and their families at MoMo's this Saturday afternoon. Three chef-department teams will compete: Adam Timney of Starbelly will join up with the SFFD, Jen Biesty of Scala's Bistro will team up with the Kern County Fire Department, and a champion pizza-tosser from Tony's Pizza Napoletana will lead the Vallejo Fire Department. Celebrity judges will include Roland Passot, Marcia Gagliardi, and Lizzie Binder. Donations at the door are encouraged; more info here. [EaterWire]
THE INTERNET—A certain TV gumshoe may be making headlines on Kickstarter right now, but those interested in supporting badass women should also consider pledging money to Cocktail Cult, a book featuring recipes by and portraits of female bartenders in the Bay Area. Spearheaded by woman-owned local distillers Pur Spirits, the project needs $15K to bring its "Art Deco, Tamara DeLempicka, and 1930s Berlin"-inspired vibe to life. Won't you throw them a dollar or fifty? [EaterWire]
