Sunset magazine is holding a "Best of the West" competition for the best dish in 12 categories, and the Bay Area has lots of competitors in the hunt: to name just a few, we're fielding Papalote and La Calle Asadero for best burrito, La Taqueria for best taco, Koi Palace and Yank Sing for best dumplings, Flour + Water for best pizza, Humphry Slocombe and Bi-Rite for best ice cream, and in our strongest category, the quartet of Chez Panisse, Gather, Swan Oyster Depot, and Burma Superstar for best salad.
