The four-star word cloud. [Photo: Inside Scoop]
THE CLOUD—Inside Scoop embarked on a fun project today, plugging every word on the current menus of the Chron's four-star restaurants (minus fire-shuttered Chez Panisse) into a word cloud to see what items repeated. Obviously, "truffles," "caviar," and "lobster" were big winners, but the California seasonality you'd expect also had a big presence, with "asparagus," "egg," "peas," and "rhubarb" all appearing. And you can pretty much guarantee that you'll be having at least some sorbet and creme fraiche, as well as a lot of things that are "young," no matter where you show up. [Inside Scoop]
SOMA—The former Club Six space, which closed last October after fourteen years, has been snapped up by Duc Luu, co-owner of Horizon Restaurant & Lounge in North Beach. The spot's new name is Lux. [Grub Street]
CASTRO—The casual Italian spot going into the former Dancing Pig space has a name: Dante's Table. It's being run by Francesco D'Ippolito, who also owns nearby Poesia, and Roman chef Roberto Lamantia will be at the helm. Literary references are big here, with the space planned for division into three sections, Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso (that last one will be the back patio), just like the Divine Comedy. D'Ippolito is targeting mid-April for opening. [Tablehopper]
WESTERN ADDITION/NOPA—Workshop has been offering classes in homebrewing and grilled pizza to the DIY-loving hordes as of late, and they're celebrating both additions with a beer and pizza bash on-site tomorrow night. Brewing teacher Jason Beck of Comrades Brewing will have three different creations for pairing with a few different pies. Admission is free; just bring cash for the goods. More info here. [EaterWire]
SOMA—Coffee aficionados should mark their calendars for Mandala SF this Saturday, which will feature coffee power hours from Equator, Blue Bottle, and Mr. Espresso; photography and paintings from local artists; coffee cocktails from Slate Coffee Roasters; and stroopwafels from Rip Van Wafels, all set to disco and '80s dance tunes. Admission is free; sign up here. [EaterWire]
