Beloved Mission sandwich purveyor Pal's Takeaway is turning four this week, and chef-owner Jeff Mason sent us all the details on the special chef-collaboration sandwiches they'll be putting out this Friday. Nopa's Laurence Jossel will lead the charge with a house-cured tasso ham, asparagus remoulade, and pickled onion sandwich on Josey Baker bread, while Pal's neighbors at Wise Sons Deli are contributing their famous pastrami for a banh mi from what Mason refers to as "the remote Vietnamese mountain village of Oy Vong." Onetime staffer Dave Knopp will contribute his classic coffee-rubbed pulled pork on a Firebrand challah bun, while Amy Brown and Joe Wolf of Marla Bakery will offer chai pots de creme and other treats.
Meanwhile, the planned Pal's brick-and-mortar in the former El Delfin space at 24th and Folsom is still underway, and Mason will be sharing real estate with a pal of his own: Michael Meadows, who plans to open a wine bar called La Movida in the space. The full kitchen will allow Mason to do table service and expand the menu, and should open in June or July.
