THE MISSION/FILLMORE—Things are really heating up for the Marla Bakery duo of former Nopa pastry chef Amy Brown and her Wise Sons pickler boyfriend Joe Wolf; after doing some pop-ups at Dear Mom, they're going to be taking over Dandelion Chocolate's pastry program for the next two weekends and then doing three Sunday pop-ups at State Bird Provisions in May, a la 20th Century Cafe. They're still looking for a permanent space in the Outer Richmond, but no confirmed location as of yet. [Inside Scoop]
WHO KNOWS—Now that he's back from touring Paris with Danny Bowien, Brandon Jew (Bar Agricole) has begun dropping hints about the Chinese place he's planning on opening. His latest breadcrumb in the trail: "I want to present the cleanest, purest Chinese food that I can...I don't intend to buy anything imported from China. I am in the process of learning how to make my own tofu and my own soy sauce and I'm making rice vinegar and fermenting bean pastes." No location or timeline yet. [EaterWire]
CASTRO—After closing for a week for a refresh of the interior, Frances is back in business, with a fresh coat of paint, some new art, and new chairs in addition to behind-the-scenes changes in the kitchen. Grub Street has some photos of the interior makeover. [Grub Street]
BERKELEY—After announcing yesterday that they'd offer a $30 all-you-can drink special to attract more young patrons, Golden Gate Fields rescinded the promotion today. The event was ganked "in acknowledgement of the concerns of some of its employees and some members of the community." Like those old-timers hunched over the mini-TVs aren't getting quietly hammered all day. [SFGate via SFist]
