Berkeley's having a big beer renaissance this year, with tons of new spots planned, from the first Sierra Nevada satellite location to a nanobrewpub to a beer and food truck park. First out of the gate, however, is Moxy Beer Garden, the new enterprise from Tim and Amy Voisenat, who also own The Hobnob in Alameda. Housed in the former Casa Vino space, the bar features 14 drafts with an emphasis on local producers like Almanac, Anderson Valley, Drake's, and Thirsty Bear, available in 16- or 20-ounce pours. (Most brews run $5-6 for smaller pints and $8-9 for larger ones.) 11 bottles round out the selection.

The food options are simple and hearty, with seven kinds of grass-fed burgers (including a blue cheese burger, a veggie burger, and a patty melt), fries (regular or truffle), and salad. Check out the food menu here; everything's $10 or less. Amenities include a fire pit, a dart board, and of course, plenty of (covered) outdoor seating. Hours are 11:30 am-9:30 pm, Tuesday-Sunday.
